If you have never logged on the the Server Manager application, you will be presented with a Login screen, requiring a Service Manager and Password pair. A default Server is already running on the current machine after installation. If you are attempting to log into Service Manager you will need to put in a valid IP/HOSTNAME or URL of the machine to which you wish to connect. The default login information is as follows:
NOTE: If you have ever changed the login password or default port, you will need to enter the new information instead of the defaults below.
- Service Manager: localhost
Port: 20939
Password: noventri
Once connected, you will be presented with the Noventri Manager Dialog. Refer to the following photo of the program in action.
In the above picture, the “Gear” icon on the desktop will launch the Noventri Server Manager. Notice that the default server is already created for you, with the default port number of 20940. If an additional server is desired, then simply click the “Add Server” button, and the new server will appear automatically. Notice now that the port number has automatically been incremented to the next numerical value.
In the above photo, we can also see that the check box is automatically set to start the new server instance. This will ensure that this server will automatically restart if any system reboot, or crash occurs. The end result is that the customers content is safe even if there is a problem on the physical machine.
To change any of the values listed in the dialog presented, all you have to do is click once on the item to change, and then start typing the new data. If there is a specific port and name for this customers’ server, then this is the place to configure it.
As shown in the following photo, If you desire to change any of the Service Manager login information, you may do so in the Advanced tab of this program. If anyone wishes to change the location of the logs or their work directory, click the [...] button to make the necessary changes.
Now, in the next photo, we would like to address the issue of Log and Work directories. The Work directory contains all of the server instances created within. The Default server work and log directories point to a “Separate” sub-folder than the other Server_2 instance. This effectively keeps only the specific server content that corresponds to itself in that particular sub-folder. Any Clients that are logged on to a server will never see or have access to another customer’s material. To explore the differences I encourage you to highlight the server that you wish to query, and use the “Browse Files” / “Browse Logs” buttons to examine the information contained in each folder.
Because the Noventri Manager is a server configuration utility, there is really no need to modify anything or set Windows Registry settings. If you have done so, I would recommend that the Noventri Software be uninstalled, and any modifications should be reversed in the registry before proceeding. Once that is completed, reinstall the software to reset the registry to known state.
We understand the security risk that are involved with allowing port forwarding within your network, but if a good Hardware Firewall is chosen, as perhaps part of the router solution, we are convinced that there is very little danger of intrusion. What we recommend to avoid having to keep adding new server ports to forward, is to simply reserve and “pre-forward” a range of available ports to the server physical machine. This will help to create new servers with the foreknowledge that the port number will be one digit more than the instance above it.
I hope this answered some questions for anyone using the new Noventri Server Manager.
Kind Regards,
Sergey
