Remote Control of Displays

Post by icevault »

Would it be possible to add some method to control the displays remotely without a schedule? Basically a software remote control instead of having to create a schedule?

Best example for usage, we open our restaurant early one day and would like to turn on all the displays. The schedule for each SF-200 runs the same slide 24/7. Rather than grabbing the physical remote control, I would log onto the Noventri software and send a command to all the players in a group to Power On. (The reverse could also be true - powering off if we close early due to a snow storm.)

As the codes are already in the system, there should be some type of "Send command" feature.

Thanks!! Keep up the good work!!

Hello icevault,

Thanks for the feedback! We are always interested in ways to improve interaction between digital signage systems and the end user. Posting suggestions on the forum is a great way to let us to know what features are most important to you.

Until a "remote control" feature is added, there are two ways to control the power on/off settings for screens remotely via Noventri Suite.

1. VESA Sleep Mode

2. RS-232 Commands

Thanks again!

Martin,

Thanks for the response. I have commands scheduled along with the playlist. The request is basically to issue an instantaneous command (either per display or for a group) in the event of special circumstances. While it might not be common to have a single slide playing 24/7 as in our case (static menu that doesn't change per display), I would imagine that others have something assigned to the players even if the display has been powered off. Conversely, we may have to close early in the winter due to a snow storm. As the regular operating hours may keep us open until 10 PM, the schedule will not power off the displays until 10 PM. Being able to log onto Noventri Suite and issue a POWER OFF command would be very helpful.

Maybe it's possible to add this feature to the Emergency Setup feature you are developing.

Hi Martin,

I'm just following up to see if there are any future plans to add "remote control" features that allow a user to issue commands direct to a display (either through the player or Suite) for instantaneous control. (i.e. - a true remote control).

This feature would be useful mostly for troubleshooting RS232 connection issue or SF-200 issues. It would also allow us to remotely control the display outside the normal schedule (without having to insert commands for a one time event such as an early closing).

Hi icevault,

There are several agenda items in the queue for future Noventri remote development. Some of those include showing player properties and a Pause/Step feature that will allow users to pause pages during playback. We will keep everyone posted when these and other features are released. Thanks for the feedback. We will pass these on to the Development Department.

Kind regards,
Martin

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the note. The items you mentioned are certainly welcome but the request goes beyond simple "player properties" and pausing the pages during playback.

Currently the players can control our NEC Displays with the pre-loaded commands that are included with the Noventri Suite. Using the "Insert Command" feature, we can program the display to power off/on and switch the appropriate HDMI Input. These commands can only be issued within the framework of stored commands.

This request is to add the capability to issue remote commands as if we were using a remote control pointed at our displays (think Automation systems such as Crestron and Control4 or consumer type Logitech Harmony devices).
