Is there a wireless solution for the SF-100e? I'm not clear on whether the usb drive must be used for storage or is only used for sneakernet. If not, can the SF-100e accept a usb wireless Ethernet adapter? If usb is not an option, can it use something like the NETGEAR WNCE2001 Wireless 802.11b/g/n Ethernet Port Universal WiFi Internet Adapter connected to the Ethernet port for a wireless connection?

I'm tired of doing sneakernet PowerPoint updates with my current setup, as I have a display in a location that has no wired connectivity and likely will not for some time, if ever. The SF-100e & Noventri software look like an attractive solution, but wireless is my only option for now.

Hello Kellison and welcome to the forum,

The USB Drive is required for all configurations and is the only device supported on the USB port, for now.

You may, however, use a standalone wireless Access Point connected to the Ethernet port, as you suggested. We haven't tested the WNCE2001, but we have been selling and using the Netgear WN802T in installations with great success. We'll be glad to help you with the configuration. You can even connect multiple SF-100e players to a switch connected to the Access Point.

Best regards,

Thanks for the quick response.

Is there a way to secure the usb drive. Since most displays of this type are in public spaces, I would think theft might be a concern.

You're welcome.

This concern has been brought up before. Although the USB Drive seems like a likely theft target, we have not heard of any being stolen. Many are installed in public areas and schools and the players are within reach. The USB drive we supply is very small and doesn't attract attention.

You can run a zip tie through the loop if you wish, but it may actually attract more attention. If data security is your concern, and in an unlikely event, someone does steal the USB drive, the image data is not in a format that can be used by anyone and no personal information, such as passwords, are stored on the USB drive. This was designed at the request of our Government and DOD clients. Also, all network traffic is SSL encrypted.
